Farewell, Mangobird

Our hearts are forever broken by the sudden passing of our beloved Mangobird, our wonderful companion for the past 15 years. The silence in our house is deafening. We will always miss her friendly chatter, her funny sound effects, and most of all that warm “hello” in the adorable young woman’s voice she picked up a few years ago. Her corner of the house is eerily quiet now, echoing the emptiness in our hearts.

Full of attitude and once a miniature terror, she added so much fun and enriched our lives beyond anything we imagined when we took her in. As she learned to talk, we realized how intelligent she was, and we’ll never look at wild mynahs the same way again.

Recently she lost most of her vision, but she was still listening and aware of everything going on in the house. When she heard the squeaky cabinet door where we keep the glasses, she’d immediately make her “clink clink” sound, knowing ice cubes were next.

She loved bling, anything shiny. She’d pull paperclips out of files to play with them, and once, when offered Uncle’s wedding ring, she ran off with it and started thrashing it. It took a while to get it back! She was so headstrong, and everything was on her terms. We sometimes called her our miniature velociraptor.

Mango was closely bonded to our first Golden Retriever, Lucky, and the two would hang out together. When we brought our second Golden, Astro, home, Mango took one look at him and loudly proclaimed “doggy doggy doggy!”, recognizing a new friend.

Farewell, Mango. Mahalo for being such an entertaining part of our lives. We will miss you always.
